    • Only sold through dealerships

    American Auto Shield plans

American Auto Shield offers eight plans. The Diamond plan is the most comprehensive plan. The Platinum and Deluxe plans both cover named components, but the Platinum plan has slightly more coverage. There are also optional, customizable coverage packages available.

American Auto Shield also has three options for more moderate coverage. The Aluminum plan offers a mid-level named component coverage, but the Bronze and Tech Plus plans are designed for specialty needs. The Bronze plan offers wrap coverage to complement an existing auto warranty. The Tech Plus plan exclusively covers electronics.

American Auto Shield then has two more basic plans: Powertrain and PT Gold. Powertrain is more affordable, but PT Gold offers more coverage.

American Auto Shield also offers several levels of mechanical breakdown insurance, which is an insurance product that mimics the function of an extended auto warranty.

    American Auto Shield coverage

American Auto Shield service contracts are available for cars up to 25 years old, which is much older than many companies are willing to cover. The company’s mileage limit is 250,000 miles, which is also comparatively high.

Customers can submit American Auto Shield claims online when their vehicles need repairs. American Auto Shield also offers 24/7 customer service by phone and online chat.

American Auto Shield offers towing coverage of up to $75 per occurrence. Many extended warranty companies offer complimentary towing, though. American Auto Shield’s rental reimbursements are about average at $40 a day for up to four days.

    American Auto Shield FAQ

Can you get an American Auto Shield quote online?

American Auto Shield does not offer the option to get a quote online. However, calling directs you to customer service representatives who can help you get the right warranty plan.

How do you file claims with American Auto Shield warranty?

Customers or repair companies can call American Auto Shield to work on a claim. On the company’s website, there is a link to report a claim and upload supporting documents. Users can view claim history, status, milestones and payments when logged into their accounts online.

Are American Auto Shield warranties transferable?

Yes, you can transfer American Auto Shield warranties to a private party if you are trading in or selling your vehicle. Warranties can only be transferred from person to person and not to an auctioneer or dealership. This means you won’t necessarily waste money if you decide to sell before the end of your warranty. Also, transferring an extended warranty can increase the resale value of your vehicle.

    Is American Auto Shield legit?

American Auto Shield might be a good extended auto warranty provider for you if you have an older car with higher mileage. Its additional benefits leave something to be desired, but the company’s wide array of coverage options means many customers are able to find an extended warranty that works for them. Plus, American Auto Shield can cover motorcycles and ATVs.

While driving home from another state our water pump went out on a Sunday. We were stranded on the interstate and had to call a wrecker and be towed to the only place that was open, which was Pep Boys. Pep Boys was able to make the repairs and get us back on the road. I submitted a claim, with receipts, for just over $1,300. My claim was only approved for just over $700. I have a $100 deductible so I should have gotten back $1,200. I would highly not recommend this company. I was told that I should have stayed overnight in a hotel and waited until Monday, when my wife and I both had to report to work, for the claim to be approved rather than paying the claim and getting home in order to work the next day.

American auto shield is a scammer. Did tell you what you want to hear so they can get your money. They do not honor anything on that contract. They're on this get rich scheme by scamming money out of people. My advice to you it ain't worth it. Find somebody else to do your warranty. I was told not to file any more complaints. But that devil in his army ain't going to stop me. One of the representatives I was talking to had a baby in the background. They got some rude people that are working in the customer service department. They need to get shut down. I won't recommend American auto shield to their own Mama. Stop scamming people out of their money. People work too hard for their money.

WARNING! Stay far away from Car Shield and American Auto Shield. They are a scam! They refuse to pay the cost of parts and labor quoted by a certified auto repair facility. A gas pump that costs $875, Car Shield/American Auto Shield only offered to pay $200. The repair facility said it would take 2 hours to fix, Car Shield/American Auto Shield only agreed to pay for 1 hour. Leaving the rest of the cost on us. SCAM! SCAM! SCAM! Stay far away!

2years!!! It’s been 2 years I am fighting with them to honor the contract that I have with them. Car suffered from a timing chain issue. They refused to honor the contract for 2 years. When I took it to one shop they made me pay to have the engine broken down before they could authorize the claim. They then refused to answer the shop. I was deployed and when I came back the shop after not being able to get an answer from American AutoShield decided to not do the work. I called and spoke to numerous people at AAS. They told me I could take the car to any other shop and get it done.

I took the car to another repair shop that was willing to get the work done only for American AutoShield to tell me I had to take the car BACK to the other shop which they refused to answer over a year ago because they authorized the claim for that shop and can’t change it to the new shop. Mind you the shop is over 30miles from my new home where I moved and had to pay to move the vehicle that was sitting for over a year!!! What sense does that make!! This company is nothing more than a scam. They will do everything in their power to NOT honor their own contracts, lie to you. You will not get the same answer depending whom you speak to as everyone that you speak to will tell you something different.

Don't waste your time purchasing a warranty through them. They will do absolutely everything they can to stick you with the repair. They require that the part in question be removed completely before they will authorize a repair. What they don't tell you is once the part is removed it's at their discretion whether they will honor the claim and pay it.

If they decide not to you are stuck paying to put the vehicle back together. Also, their service hours are ridiculously low. I still ended up having to pay $700 out of pocket as they wouldn't pay the hours needed for the repair. They make it seem all great upfront. Oh and if you call with an issue you are stuck with someone reading off a screen. They will not let you talk to anyone that can make a decision. You cannot talk to the adjuster, there is no manager to speak to. The customer service is even worse than the coverage.

American Auto Shield an administrator for Carchex will do their best to NOT cover a part. They won't pay the dealer for the part but want to send a cheap knockoff. Yet their own language in the contract will say Like part and like Quality. Knockoff parts are seldom of like quality as they are copied parts and most don't even do any testing. So when they won't pay for the part at a Dealer you have to take vehicle somewhere else and then they won't pay the Diagnostic they already approved because I didn't get the repair there. They actually can't even interpret their own contracts properly. One person will say it's covered and then a few hours later they tell you that No it's Not covered.

I had a warranty with American Shield the I paid a diagnostic charge to check my vehicle. They found the problem that it was the needed to be replaced. The dealership sent all the info that they found and the adjuster basically told them that in order to get it replaced they would have to tear it down and I would be responsible for the tear down. Dealer told me it would around 2000.00 to tear it down and if it was not something that is covered I would be responsible. What it has is a broken timing gear and the policy I have says it is covered. They are basically telling the dealership they don’t know what they are doing so I am going to be filing a lawsuit against American shield for saying they cover parts and do not. Waited almost three weeks for an adjuster respond to dealer. I would not recommend this company. They are crooks.

Purchased a Mechanical Breakdown Insurance Policy from AASI approximately eight months ago. Six months later my vehicle began having shifting and acceleration problems. Immediately I took the vehicle into a local dealership for repair. After completing diagnostics, the dealership recommended replacement of the transmission. AASI refused to accept the diagnostic result and requested further testing at my cost. This was completed and a partial repair was authorized, though the dealership stood by their original recommendation. When the repair failed to correct the issues, AASI was again asked to authorize replacement of the transmission. AASI has requested further testing, again at my expense. Nearly two months later I am still waiting for authorization and repair. Over the years, I have owned many vehicles and repair warranties. This continues to be the worst experience I have had with any such company.

I have been paying for 4 years on this warranty and had not had any problems with car. I had a power train issue and the adjustor did not feel that the diagnosis that the repair shop was sufficient and requested tear down of the transmission. Warranty used section f of need to tear down transmission to make sure it is bad. The mechanic had already diagnosed then an adjustor said no. Why do you pay for service not only did I take it to a shop that was name by them but I had to foot a $400 to be diagnosed that the warranty co did not pay. Lousy lousy service.
