    Bottom Line

Safeguard My Car sells a few different warranty policies. While the company doesn’t offer online quotes and the website has fairly limited information, it does have sample contracts available to review.

    What is Safeguard My Car?

Safeguard My Car is an auto warranty provider located in Orlando, Florida. Over the past 20 years, it has served more than 3,000 customers, according to the company. Safeguard My Car’s website is pretty basic, so there’s not much to see online about the company.

The company is pretty transparent about its contracts, though; you can review sample agreements on its website to get a better idea of its coverage and exclusions.

    Safeguard My Car warranty coverage

Safeguard My Car sells three warranty plans: Powertrain Protection, Used Stated Coverage and New Exclusionary.

Powertrain Protection covers the key components of a vehicle. Used Stated Coverage covers a wider range of parts, and New Exclusionary offers effectively the same coverage that the manufacturer offers for a new vehicle. As a general rule, exclusionary plans offer the highest level of coverage.

    All plans include:

    • $100 deductible per repair visit
    • 24-hour roadside assistance
    • Towing, lockout service, fuel delivery service, battery boost/jump assistance, tire assistance
    • Rental reimbursement in some cases ($30 per day for up to 11 days)
    • Nationwide repair coverage
    • Reimbursement for lodging and meal expenses ($75 per day for up to three days)
    Powertrain Protection
The Powertrain Protection plan is designed for vehicle models from 2001 or later with fewer than 250,000 odometer miles. This plan provides coverage for critical systems like the engine, transmission, transfer case and drive axles. There are three levels of Powertrain Protection coverage: Powertrain, Powertrain Plus and Powertrain Enhanced.

    Powertrain Powertrain Plus Powertrain Enhanced
    Engine
    Transmission
    Transfer case
    Drive axle(s)
    Seals and gaskets

    Cooling system X X
    Fuel system X X
    Extended AC coverage X X
    Extended electrical coverage X X
    Used Stated Coverage
For vehicle models from 2013 or later with fewer than 150,000 miles, Used Stated Coverage may be a good option. This plan covers most parts of major vehicle systems, including:
    • Engine
    • Transfer case
    • Transmission
    • Drive axle(s)
    • Air conditioning/heating
    • Suspension
    • Steering
    • Cooling
    • Fuel system
    • Brake
    • Electrical
    • Seals and gaskets
    • Hybrid
    New Exclusionary
Designed for vehicle models from 2015 or later with under 100,000 miles, the New Exclusionary plan covers repairs on almost all components and systems. It’s the company’s most comprehensive coverage option.

Some items excluded from coverage include:

    • Paint
    • Bumpers
    • Lights
    • Frame and structural body parts
    • Maintenance

Check your contract to see a full list of exclusions.

With Used Stated Coverage and New Exclusionary, you can choose to add the Enhanced Electronics Package. With this package, the company will pay $750 to repair or replace certain original factory-installed components, including the radio, audio equipment and navigation system.

    Safeguard My Car cost

To get a cost estimate, you’ll have to call the company directly. Unlike some other companies, Safeguard My Car doesn’t offer a free online quote system where you can get an estimate on your monthly or annual price.

    Discounts

Safeguard My Car doesn’t specify any discounts online, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t offer any. When you call to get a quote, make sure to ask about discount options. Discounts may be available for:

    • Military members
    • Health care professionals, police and firefighters
    • Those who suffered financial distress as a result of COVID-19

    Safeguard My Car warranty exclusions

Each plan has its own sample contract with exclusions. For Powertrain Protection, the biggest exclusion is any repair without accurate records proving you’ve maintained the vehicle in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications. Other exclusions include:

    • Repairs if the odometer is broken and can’t be properly read
    • A breakdown that is reasonably determined to have happened before coverage started
    • If the vehicle was used as a taxi, shuttle or hauling vehicle
    • Repairs if there was an accident, vandalism, theft or act of God
    • Personal liabilities
    • If the vehicle is under manufacturer warranty
    • Repairs needed because of rust or corrosion
    • Gradual reduction in performance due to wear and tear
    • Damage caused by overheating

This is not an exhaustive list. Read your sample contract for a full list of exclusions.

    Safeguard My Car contracts

Safeguard My Car offers sample contracts for customers to review. The sample contracts are just examples, so remember that terms could differ in the one you receive — and it’s important to read your final contract thoroughly.

Here are a few paraphrased lines from the sample Powertrain Protection contract:

    • You must change your oil within 60 days of signing, then again every six months or 5,000 miles in order to stay eligible for service.
    • You can cancel within 30 days for a full refund.
    • Every repair service is subject to a $100 deductible.
    • The company will not pay out more than $12,500 per contract term. If your car is worth less than that, it will only pay up to the amount it’s worth.
    • You need to keep all maintenance records. Safeguard My Car’s contract states that it will not reimburse for repair costs or expenses if you cannot provide accurate records proving that you have maintained the failed covered part.
    • You can transfer coverage for $50. If you sell your vehicle, simply call the company and pay the $50 transfer fee in order to transfer the coverage.

    Safeguard My Car claims

When you have a breakdown, you must take all reasonable steps to stop more damage from happening — like calling a tow truck or parking the car in a garage. You can take it to any licensed repair facility, but that company must call your warranty provider for approval before work begins. Any work completed without authorization may not be covered.

The company doesn’t make any guarantees for when claims may be reimbursed, so it’s hard to tell how long the process may take.

    Safeguard My Car FAQ

Can I pick my own mechanic with Safeguard My Car?

You can choose your own repair company as long as it’s licensed. Safeguard My Car has the right to deny any company, though, and transfer you to a company it prefers.

Does Safeguard My Car have a limit on repairs?

Safeguard My Car limits repairs at $12,500 per contract term, unless your vehicle is worth less than that. If your vehicle’s worth is below that limit, the company will only pay up to the value of your car.

Can I cancel my Safeguard My Car plan?

You can cancel your plan in the first 30 days for a full refund. After that, you’ll be refunded a prorated amount, minus a $75 cancellation fee. The company will also deduct all incurred claims.

Where is Safeguard My Car available?

Safeguard My Car offers vehicle warranty plans in all 50 states.

Is Safeguard My Car worth it?

Safeguard My Car offers a pretty standard selection of plans and coverage options, with prices starting at $99 monthly. This may be a little high compared with the cost of comparable warranties, but the company does offer a few additional benefits, like free roadside assistance, which may help make the cost worth it.

Because the company doesn’t offer quotes online, you’ll need to contact the company directly for a cost estimate.

    Reviewed July 3, 2023

Recently purchased a new car, and was offered their services for my car. Called them to speak to David, somehow I got connected to David's manager, who was absolutely RUDE! The phone called lasted 2 minutes before I hung the phone up. Not a company I recommend at all.

I have a warranty and they refuse to honor my repair. My engine went out due to a faulty temperature sensor which caused the engine to run hot. And they said it was my negligence. I can’t control a sensor nor tell if it’s running hot if the temperature is normal on the dashboard.
