Penn Warranty is a vehicle service contract provider covering the cost of car repairs due to breakdowns or malfunctions. It also lets you choose your repair center and transfer your warranty if you decide to sell your vehicle. Penn Warranty partners with a large network of used car dealers, but it’s not the most transparent about its options or pricing.

    Pros & Cons

    Pros

    • Uncommon pricing
    • Choose your own repair center
    • Transferable plans

    Cons

    • Complicated claims process
    • Limited plan information

    Bottom Line

Penn Warranty provides vehicle service contracts through a large network of dealers. It’s a good option for used car drivers on a budget. However, its claims can be tricky, and customer service hours are limited.

    What is Penn Warranty?

Penn Warranty is a vehicle service contract provider that partners with a large network of auto dealerships to offer extended warranty packages for used cars. The company also provides emergency roadside services and lets you submit claims and choose your own repair facility.

    Penn Warranty coverage

Penn Warranty doesn’t publish much information about its plans. However, to determine the level of coverage you need, consider:

    • Your monthly mileage
    • How long you plan to keep your vehicle
    • Average repair costs

To get in contact with Penn Warranty about its service contract options, call its customer service line.

You can buy Penn Warranty coverage in the first 30 days after purchasing your vehicle. An inspection is required within 90 days of purchasing the vehicle, though.

If you need to file a claim, visit your repair center of choice. Your mechanic should provide repair options and give you an authorization number and other information. After the repair is complete, you or the shop can submit the invoice by fax, email or mail.

While your car is in the shop, Penn Warranty also covers the cost of a rental car up to $25 every eight hours of repair time. This coverage maxes out at $250.

    Penn Warranty prices

Penn Warranty pricing information is hard to come by, but the company claims that its contract prices do not depend on your vehicle’s class, mileage or age. Contact Penn Warranty or your local dealer for more information. Policies are available through car dealerships nationwide.

I purchased a vehicle from VA motor sports in Virginia Beach in May 2023. Along with my vehicle purchase I was advised to buy a power train warranty that covers the engine and transmission. Fast forward to September the transmission is bad. I was happy that I purchased the extended warranty to cover this issue. When the dealership called Penn warranty with the diagnosis. They required Nissan to do a pressure line test on a cvt in which Nissan North America does not do because of the extreme danger to the vehicle. Penn Warranty did everything in their power to not pay to have my car fixed. Please stay away from these warranty companies. Do your homework before you are stuck paying for costly car repairs. This company along with shady car salesmen are in on the scam together. Buyer beware!

My car died and I need to get to work. So I wound up having to get another car. I went to a "reputable" dealership and found a decent car that looked healthy and seemed to check out. I bought a "Penn Warranty Corporation" warranty from the dealer's good review. The gold plan covered just about everything for the price. I needed to keep my payments low. Three days later, the car starts to blow coolant and overheat and I had already been out of work for 2 weeks from my last car! Called the dealership and they were no help at first. I went to a certified repair place and gave them my warranty info and lo and behold, they WOULD NOT FIX THE CAR. The heater core needed to be replaced and this is related to the cooling system which was supposed to be covered! As my fiance put it, it was not a "new" issue, it was a pre-existing issue.

My first question, "it's a used car!!! EVERYTHING is pre-existing!!! Why is the dealer selling this warranty when it doesn't work?" We wound up taking the car back to the dealer and having to pay for the repair out of pocket to the tune of 2000! We paid 600 of that, but the repair would have been unworkable and the car itself was 10K. We're already strained! Now this warranty is on my car loan and we will never be able to use it! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY OR BUY THIS WARRANTY!

      Claims HandlingTechRefunds & Payouts

The worst company ever to deal with. They take month before you get your money for a claim and they barely pay anything after I paid them $3000. My car fixing bill came out to be $1500 this ** company only try paying $175 and most of my fixing parts was part of their warranty and they still only paid $175. My dealership told me he deals with a lot of extended warranty companies and this is the worst one he has ever seen. Also they do not refund you all your money back. Instead taking and putting your hard working money in their pockets. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. THIS IS A RIP OFF.

BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE!!! I will simply provide the facts, my experience in working with this company for over a year has been nothing short of a NIGHTMARE. I've had over 100 warranty contracts with this company and they have only covered 3 repairs (THREE REPAIRS). They will find any way to try and get out of paying for a repair. The average time to get an approval or denial is 3 weeks leaving the customer carless. In a recent claim the customer was forced to pay for a 150.00 towing and a 280.00 dollar transmission tear down just to get denied. This is consistent with how they operate, they are incredibly slow and do everything they can not to pay. I contacted my rep to get further clarification and got no call back or response. Furthermore customer service refused to give any further details as to why or how they came to that conclusion.

      RATINGS: At time of review
      Consumer Affairs: 1.1/5
      BBB: 1.2/5
      YELP: 1.5/5
      Google: 2.4/5

      Indeed: 2.5/5

As a dealer the customers come first and I will do everything to protect my customers and their investments. This company has failed repeatedly and a warning to other dealers, working with them has hurt my reputation. Their ratings speak volumes, I truly and honestly do not suggest using this company. Do a little research and find another company to work with. You will save yourself so much trouble.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Save your money for someone that will actually back what they say. If you read all these reviews you will see a trend. They do everything they can to back out of having to pay anything. Very disappointed I had to give them 1 star to proceed. My vehicle has been in the shop almost a month now going thru their slow and painful process only to find out they would not cover my oil pump failure which is clearly covered. Be sure to check reviews when choosing a warranty company, I failed to do that but will learn from it... Now off to the BBB website!

I own a repair shop in Hollywood. Like all the rest of the reviews here they are the worst. I deal with warranty companies all the time. Most are just ok but this by far is the worst in 40 years in business here. Customer has a bad motor and they just make up excuses to not fix it. Do not buy from them and I am turning it over to BBB and dept of insurance.

Bought used 2011 For Explorer in February. I didn't have a chance to look at the AC since it was 30 in Michigan. The dealer asked me if I was interested in an extended vehicle warranty and sang the praises of PWC. He says that he doesn't make a dime from the warranty so I figured better safe than sorry. In June the weather heated up and I used my AC.. or attempted to. No AC.. contacted PWC for authorized garage locations. I was told that they don't have a list and that I should go to my choice and have them work with PWC.

This is when the fun really started. I had a leak in my compressor but after numerous pictures sent at their request they ultimately declined the claim saying that it was a compressor washer that was the issue and it was not covered. I contacted the company and asked why the washer could not be covered since it was the cause of the compressor leaking. "Nope - we do not cover that. Pay for it yourself." They then said that they would email me a dispute form. I provided my email address and expected additional delays and denials. The email wasn't even sent to me. Wow. Thanks. Another funny thing was that they accept emails but the response isn't sent via email. It's sent via USPS snail mail, lovely. The reviews are correct, they suck real bad. Always check reviews before paying. They got me for almost $2500.

I would leave 0 stars if that were an option. Just filed a claim on an engine repair for a 2010 Yukon we bought used 2 years ago, at which time we purchased the GOLD package warranty. They are so far only offering to pay $800 of a minimum $4500 repair, of which I have a $100 deductible. Reasoning is because they will only pay for the "initial failure", which then caused camshaft failure, resulting from "continued operation". The only "continued operation" was from the time it started making a loud knocking noise (like something had suddenly broken) to the time/distance it took to get to the mechanic. There was NO check engine light, and no trouble starting or operating the vehicle. There was NO reason to think, know, or assume that it was not driveable from the moment the lifter failed.

IF our claim is adjusted satisfactorily, I will amend this review. Otherwise, I will continue to seek justice by means of legal action. This is entirely unethical business practice. These warranties should not be pushed on consumers with so many "loopholes" that get the company out of paying for major repairs. This is why the consumer buys the warranty in the first place.

STEER CLEAR OF PENN WARRANTY. I have had good experiences with other warranty companies in the past so I was willing to take a chance when I bought my newest vehicle. From now on I will always research the company before committing to a $3000 purchase. My car is in the shop with a faulty steering wheel lock. I paid the $3000 premium for electrical coverage, which explicitly lists a steering wheel lock. The repair was refused because they "cover steering wheel lock cylinders" and not "steering wheel locks". What does that even mean? They're just a rip off and the bad reviews make it clear. I wish I would have read them before paying $3000 for a useless warranty.

This has been the worst company I have ever dealt with. I purchased this Warranty because the dealer I purchased my vehicle from stated they were good. Well boy was they wrong. First off the company is so horrible that I could not find a shop that even wanted to deal with them. Just when I found one they tried and got nowhere. I have paid $2200 for a warranty that is worthless. The guy Rich was so rude as if he had to pay to get my car repaired. Needless to say I paid for my repairs myself. Please run far away from this company quickly.
