ADT Solar sells solar panels and handles permitting, installation, inspections, electrical work and grid connection. Systems come with a 25-year, legally binding power production guarantee, along with warranty coverage.

    What is ADT Solar?

ADT Solar is a solar energy company that offers grid-tied solar panel system installation in 22 states. It can get your system up and running in several weeks. ADT Solar also installs Tesla Powerwall energy storage and solar batteries to provide power through the night and help you avoid electrical surge prices.

ADT Solar systems come with a 25-year labor guarantee, 25-year power production guarantee, 25-year panel module performance guarantee and 25-year Enphase microinverters guarantees. Brands include LG, Enphase, Outback Power and Unirac.

The company also has an in-house roofing division to address any concerns regarding roof damage and ensure the best practices for solar installation. In case of damage to your solar panels, ADT Solar can also help with removal and reinstallation.

ADT Solar provides 100% in-house repair and maintenance of its systems. If panels are damaged, customers are covered by the 25-year guarantee and will not pay for repairs.

    How does ADT Solar work?

ADT Solar offers free estimates and energy audits to get you started. A solar specialist will work with you to customize a solar energy system that meets your goals and maximizes efficiency on your property.

ADT Solar takes care of the permits, inspections and electrical work. Once the company installs the panels and the city utility installs the net meter, the system starts producing power right away.

You only pay for the electricity not produced by your system, and any excess power will be sent back to the city grid. Net metering works slightly differently depending on location.

With the installation of an ADT Solar solar system, customers get lifetime, 24/7 online monitoring with Enphase Enlighten. Track energy consumption, see performance data in real time, check that the system is operating normally and get alerts of any issues with the array.

    ADT Solar cost

ADT Solar says the average cost to install solar panels ranges from $11,000 to $25,000. The exact cost depends on square footage, kilowatt usage and the south-facing roofline. In some areas, you can get rebates and tax credits.

Qualified customers can finance a ADT Solar system with $0 down, but you can also obtain a solar loan or pay upfront (solar purchase). ADT Solar also recommends exploring an Energy Efficient Mortgage, which credits a home’s energy efficiency into the mortgage.

Stay away. Got the solar panels installed 2 months ago. Cant get the system activated. Every call to customer service is a different answer and the promise me that some one will call, no one calls. Reported to Better Business Bureau for a false sales pitch, finally got a response, corrected the issue, now been trying to get system activated no response. Local sales manager gave me his cell phone, doesn't answer texts to get some one to activate. STAY AWAY. Awful customer service. Once your installed they don't care, they got their money. Better Business Bureau contacted again. Ridiculous.

Signed up and was told installation and operational within 3-6 months. It has been over 6 months and its still not operational. ADT Solar does not call or email to give any indication what the hold up is. Even if this works out in the end, I would not recommend as the pain of not knowing what is going on is not worth it.

We signed our Solar Contract with ADT in July 2022 with the promise of our panels being operational within 3 months. We're now in October 2023 and our panels still aren't operational! We have probably spoken with every single employee and manager in ADT over the last year and a half to be told we would be operational within "2 weeks." Every time we were escalated to a manager, we were given more false promises.

An inspector finally came out and ADT had to resubmit drawings since the first round was incorrect! Then we were told they would pay for 6 months of electricity invoices for the hassle, so we emailed them with zero payment. Then they said they were crediting our Xcel statement for $650. That didn't happen either. This entire process and lack of customer service has been ridiculous and now we just want them off our roof! I have reached out to the news stations since nothing else is working to get this farce of a company to follow through!

If you are considering buying ADT Solar Panels...DON'T... The installation and startup of the system was a headache and after a year of usage I have found it to be a bad investment and actually spending more money than if I had stayed with the normal power company. My system was designed to allow for the power company to buy back the unused solar energy stored in the panels which should create a negative balance in my power bill from the utility company several months a year and actually save money overall (including the cost to finance the equipment).

In the 12 months that I have been using the system I have never had a month where I did not receive a balance due from the Energy Company and I have never had a month with a negative balance. From the day it was installed the customer service sucks and I have been getting nothing but a runaround for 12 months on why the system is not producing enough energy required to offset my energy costs and pay for the financing to install the panels...

They oversell the product, and make promises they don't keep. They also have not followed thru on paperwork necessary for REC payments. My system has been in for a year and they have failed to submit paperwork needed to obtain REC credit payments. The system does not produce as predicted. Pick someone else.

We signed up through Sunpro Solar in Apr 2021. Only recently we found out that it’s now ADT Solar. Our house was put under contract to be sold 2 weeks ago and during the inspection the inspector found water damage in the attic. Had 2 roofing companies come out to inspect the roof and both said that nails from the solar panels had cracked a board in the trusses and that is what was causing the leak. Also found out that the roof which I was told was 8 years at installation which makes it 10 years now. After the 2 roofing companies came out both informed me that the roof is the original roof. I have been trying to get this issue taken care of and have them either cancel my loan and take these panels away and then pay what it would cost to fix where the leak happened or pay the amount it cost to fix the damage by the water leak. No response. Said would get back asap and that was over a week ago.

They promised that we would never pay for electricity again. Now we are paying the debt and the electricity. The panels does not produce the energy stated in the contract and ADT refuse to install more panels. We will have to make a claim every year for under production in order to receive a check. The seller made a calculation of the production needed and the amount of the panels we need to cover 100% of electricity. We feel cheated and we regret having trusted that company.

I had my system installed in May of 2022 and because of installation incompetence, my system failed inspection. Then the permit expired and the project had to reapply. After 6 customer service reps and over a year of fighting with them to fix my situation, it was finally connected to the grid on 8-15-23 the longest and most infuriating company I have ever dealt with. Be very careful dealing with a large company that does not care about their customers. You are just a number and as soon as they got their money from the finance company for the install they checked out.

They don't return phone calls. I am now paying for an array that isn't running as they installed 60 Amp fuses that required 40 (which could have caused a fire). They ordered fuses and said it would be 2 weeks. Finally received an email (to which they rarely reply) that told me that the installer would be our yesterday and replace the fuses and commission system. No one showed up. No one responds, and no one answers the phone. They are horrible. BBB complaint is next and anywhere else I can find.

And it got worse. They significantly undersized my system. It produces 1/3 of the power required. So I pay $185 to ADT and anywhere from $200 - $400 to the local utility company. No one ever mentioned this. Stay away from ADT Solar.

We were told that the system that they designed for our home would give us a 133% off set and we would have no true up bill, that did not happen, we got a $2000 true up. Then I was told that the system was not producing what it supposed to and that it was only off by 259.8 kwh and in order to be compensated it must be off by at least 300kwh, so now I have to go through the expense of adding panels. My advice for anyone is to ask the right questions, get guarantees, when they didn't deliver in the beginning with the timeline they promised they had to pay my solar payment twice. If they tell you that you need 10 panels do yourself a favor and tell them you want 12 or 15.

After all the delays and excuses for not meeting the schedule that they themselves set I was glad it was finally done and then 1 year later to get a $2000 true up bill was infuriating because now I have to deal with the incompetent company again and get the run around, they could not even give me the cost of more panels over the phone, it is just ridiculous. I think I would rather have all my teeth pulled out without pain killers than use ADT Solar ever again.
